Empowerment through education is how we believe we can make a difference. We give back to our local, state and world community in various ways.
UNH Extension Schoolyard SITES Program
Honored to have been selected to join a group of volunteers and elementary school teachers to collaborate on teaching science to students in our state with the innovative Schoolyard SITES initiative. My teammates were two awesome teachers in the Rochester School District. We had a lot of fun developing curriculum that incorporated a Citizen Science Project, (Project FeederWatch), project-based learning and aligning outcomes with the State Science Standards. We incorporated art making to get that "A" in "STEM" for a STEAM approach. The most rewarding portion of the project was spending time with the curious and creative students where I taught mapping, bird habitats, and bird identification. Some pictures below!
For the past 10 years, we have been a part of and continue to teach workshops about the natural world through the UNH Extension Master Gardener Program. Past workshops have included Seedstarting 101 and Prepping your Spring Garden.
Percent for the Earth
We commit to giving 5% of our net profits to organizations that support nature and education. We have given to:
Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness, NH. If you've never been to SLNSC, you should check it out if you are in central New Hampshire. The live animal exhibits are top notch classy and educational. This is a place that truly cares about local natural habitat. The animals in their live animal exhibits are only rescues. The River Otters are the most fun to watch play - go earlier in the day to see them in action! And if you get a chance, go on a Squam Lake Cruise with a naturalist. So much to learn from these amazing people who dedicate their lives to educating us about the wonders in our environment.
